My Top 10 Favourite YouTube Runners
I am a very average amateur runner but I absolutely love running. I work at a computer for my profession so running for me brings much needed movement, stress relief and a chance to get outside. It’s fantastic!
However, I didn’t realise when I started how much there actually is to running and it wasn’t until I started watching runners on Youtube that this suddenly dawned on me. I have learnt so much from watching specific runners on Youtube and my whole running experience has improved dramatically thanks to these content creators.
I want to share with you today my top 10 favourite running Youtube channels in the hope that you can discover new runners and enjoy and gain a whole wealth of knowledge about running.
10. JOG ON with Harry Morgan
Harry Morgan actually comes from the South Coast in England which is where I am originally from so I feel a slight affinity with him. I have been watching his videos for a while now and he’s really becoming a good runner. He just finished his first marathon in London in 3:13 which is mightily impressive.
His enthusiasm in highly infectious and he’s building a bright orange community around his Jog on philosophy. He helps other runners meet their goals and really pushes himself too. He also gives highly practical and useful advise. His videos aren’t that frequent but when he does publish them I always like to watch.
9. Vlad Ixel
I found out about Vlad through This Happy Messy (see below in the list!). Vlad lives in Australia and has his own company Bix which produce performance fuel — electrolytes, drinks, gels etc. I regularly purchase from his company and really rate his stuff (not sponsored to say that!).
He’s a really good runner too! He tends towards the longer runs and his videos last summer where he is running in the mountains are really impressive to watch. He’s also vegan which I rate.
Plus he has a tonne of videos on running related strength and mobility exercises which I now do religiously every week. Some really valuable content and well worth checking out.
8. Flora Beverly
Flora seems lovely. She’s English and seems to live in Bristol. She documents her journey in running and makes some really nice videos. Plus she is also vegan which I always find interesting to see what runners who follow this diet are eating.
I really like watching other peoples running journeys. To see how they train, what races they participate in and what their lifestyle is. Flora’s content is what I think makes Youtube great. How else would I see such things? I highly recommend checking out her videos.
7. Ben Parkes
I haven’t seen too many of Ben Parkes videos having discovered him only recently but from the ones I have seen, his enthusiasm is highly infectious. He obviously loves running and he comes across as a very switched on guy.
I have been enjoying the videos of his that I have been watching and always seem to learn something.
6. Stephen Scullion
Stephen is an Irish long-distance runner who has his own Youtube channel. His best marathon time is 2:09:25 so he is a serious runner. His channel covers a whole range of things from his own personal workouts to general advise on workouts for specific distances and what to work on in the gym.
He gets emotional at times and doesn’t hold back from sharing what he thinks. I always look forward to watching his videos and it’s a great privilege to see how real runners actually live and train.
5. This Messy Happy
This Messy Happy is probably one of the first running Youtube channels that I started watching. It is created by Ben and Mary and since I have been watching they have been living in Thailand.
Loads of great content on this channel ranging from seeing them both compete in ultra marathons to how they train in a marathon block. Ben is a certified running coach and there is quite a bit of content on their channel of then explaining certain training approaches so if you are new to running this channel can be really helpful.
4. Phily Bowden
Phily Bowden is an English runner who has a PB in the marathon of 2:25 and is aiming to get into the English Olympic team for LA 28. She documents her highs and lows on her channel and her videos are really well edited and put together.
Recently she was training for the London marathon in the States so it was really interesting to see how a professional runner goes about preparing for a big race. She also shares the whole mental side of running game which shows just how important mental preparation is in the world of running. Definitely a channel worth checking out.
3. Floberg Runs
Ahhh Eric Floberg. He is a photographer by trade and that instantly comes across in his videos. His cinematic style really stands out amongst the crowd of Youtube runners and that alone is a good enough reason to check out his videos.
Since I have been watching him he has really progressed as a runner and just missed out on a 2:30 marathon time recently. He’s going to get it at some point! He does all this with a family of four children too. Extra kudos for that.
He rather likes slow mos of himself running backed by some trendy hipster band but he also knows this so jokes about it in his videos. I always look forward to new videos by Eric so check him out.
2. Ran To Japan
New kid on the block — Jake Barraclough almost took the number 1 spot for me but just missed out as he’s so new. But what a breath of fresh air Ran to Japan has been on the Youtube running scene.
His motto is ‘Train Harder, Not Smarter’ with the philosophy that getting good at running requires you putting in the work. And boy does he walk tha walk clocking off 250km — 280km weeks. Yes weeks!! I can’t even manage that in a month!
Jake currently lives in Japan as a self proclaimed ‘marathon monk’ who makes Youtube videos on the side. Super entertaining videos published every Sunday which I watch religiously at the moment. His positive attitude and enthusiasm for running is unreal and you can’t help but feel better after watching his videos.
Ben Is Running
Ben Felton for me is top dog in the Youtube running world at the moment. His PB in the marathon is 2:24 so he’s a very decent runner but his real talent lies in vlogging. He documents his running journey and this has taken him all over the world.
He does training camps in Kenya, races across all continents and lives in Colchester in the UK. His videos are always great to watch and there is just something about Ben that makes you want to root for him.
I just really like the style of his videos and the fact he gives you such a good insight into the life of a modern day runner. Definitely check out his channel.
Conclusion
First and foremost I would personally like to say a massive thank you to all these running content creators. I’ve gained so much from watching their content and its obvious they all put so much effort into their channels.
I’m sure there are a whole bunch of other runners that I haven’t included in this list so please share you favourites in the comments.
Running is a fantastic sport and I believe its really enjoying its hay day right now. There has never been a better time to get into running than now and through watching content from these Youtubers you are going to learn and grow so much as a runner.
