AI Video: The End of Reality, or the Future of Entertainment?

I’m seeing signals. Signals from the world that people are starting to seriously worry about AI generated videos. I saw Mountainhead at the weekend (script was too complicated for my tastes) and the main premise revolved around AI and deep fakes. Then videos like this one about AI generated videos are popping up on my Youtube generated list more and more.

Is it time to start worrying? Are we about to enter or have we already entered a point of no return? Can we believe anything we see on the internet anymore? Let’s dig in and find out.

Why Is This So Bad?

The basic argument goes that if AI is so good at creating video content, then basically anyone can create anything with just their imagination being the limiting factor. If this is the case, can we really believe anything we see on the internet as being ‘real’ anymore?

On the one hand — no we can’t.

Is this a major problem? Well yes — in the film Mountainhead, countries and governments start to crumble, riots take place on streets across the globe and billionaires start taking over countries like Argentina (yeah, this is where the film lost me).
